Do you take your classic car with a little mustard -n- mayo? Yep, I’ll take them Vogues! Trues and Vogues don’t always go together, but when they do, they make a great combination.
What are we talking about? Today we’re going to talk about Vogue Tyres!
Vogue makes tires, wheels and accessories, but they are best known for their Custom Built Radials, the tires with the white wall and distinctive gold stripe. The Vogue Tyre and Rubber Company has been in business for over 100 years!
The unique gold stripe was patented by Vogue Tyre in the ‘60s. The combo of whitewall and gold stripe gave rise to the term “mustard and mayo” to refer to Vogue Tyres.
Aesthetically, there is no other tire like a Vogue, pairing a whitewall with the gold line. The look is not only unique, it’s also mesmerizing. You don’t see Vogue Custom Built Radial tires often, so when you do, your eyes are drawn to them like an electric billboard.
There are 2 undisputed classic Vogue looks:
Vogues on a Cadillac (always a good decision)
1. Vogues on a classic car wrapped around wire wheels
2. Vogues have always been a luxury tire. A hundred years ago Vogues were designed by a chauffeur in Chicago, with a fat whitewall for use on limousines. When the depression hit, Vogue tires were brought to Los Angeles where movie stars lived, they were some of the few people who could afford to outfit their Duesenbergs with a luxury tire.
Today, Vogues are still some of the priciest tires on the market. They are a top-of-the-line tire carrying one of the best warranty programs in the industry. As a tire business insider, I can tell you that problems with a Vogue Tyre are addressed expeditiously by the Vogue rep -- customer service is on point.
Vogue is a boutique tire company, moving around 200,000 tires per year, while other manufacturers sell exponentially more units annually. For a century Vogues have held a significant share of the car culture market.
So the next time you see someone rollin' on mustard and mayo, give them a thumbs up!
