Flat tire? TPMS light on? Do this next.

This is what we tell folks when they call with a flat tire:

  1. 1. Inflate your tire before driving. Ensure your tire will hold air for some period of time, at least long enough to get to the tire shop!

2. Do your best not to drive on a flat tire.

  • Driving on a flat can cause irreversible damage to your tire. Run-on-flat damage (damage caused by driving on a flat tire) is NOT repairable, and it dramatically increases costs to replace rather than repair.
  • Driving on a flat tire may lead to wheel damage…which also dramatically increases costs, AND adds more time to the whole process.

3. If at all possible, avoid FixAFlat! If you are in a dangerous emergency situation; for example, if you are stuck on the side of the road, in the woods, in the dark, with no cell service, definitely use it! Anything short of an emergency—avoid it! FixAFlat is only a temporary "fix", but worse yet, it is corrosive, FixAFlat can damage your rim (wheel) and TPMS sensor-- which will increase costs and replacement time

4. The safest bet is to have your car towed. Take advantage of your AAA membership, or the towing included on your insurance plan.

.If you don’t have free towing, put your spare on.

.And if you have no spare, air your tire up and drive to the tire shop slowly ...take your time, but hurry!
